HP’s Helion OpenStack is here


A few months ago, Hewlett-Packard threw its hat into the ring with plans to build and offer its own OpenStack distribution. Now it, aka Helion, is broadly available.

Also available is HP Helion Development Platform which combines OpenStack integrated with Cloud Foundry PaaS capabilities. [company]HP [/company]is hosting a San Francisco event featuring Mårten Mickos, the company’s new go-to cloud guy courtesy of its acquisition of Eucalyptus as well as [company]Docker[/company] CEO Ben Golub (a Docker presence is apparently now mandatory at cloud events); [company]MongoDB[/company] vice chairman Max Schireson; [company]New Relic[/company] CEO Lew Cirne.

The offerings come with round-the-clock tech support in 32 languages and support for Java, Ruby, Node.js, PHP, Python, and Perl programming languages, and MySQL, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Redis, Memcache and Trove databases as options.

Hewlett-Packard is trying to parlay its enterprise customer base and worldwide infrastructure to play with the big boys in cloud and claims a public cloud capability. But…
